Los Angeles is also working with private developers by providing resources and incentives to build green in the area. Los Angeles is a place where you can write your own storyline. Los Angeles is also a newer type of city. Most of what we know about urban life comes from cities in the east and mid-west.

Los Angeles is known for its sunny skies and warm temperatures, so the beach is always an inexpensive and easy option for staying cool. Entertainment fans can head to Hollywood and travel by foot down the Hollywood Walk of Fame while scouring the sidewalk for their favorite stars' stars. Los Angeles is not only a prime destination for all year weather, but for regional access to all season activities. Ski and snow resorts like Big Bear are only hour’s away while excellent surf locations are scattered up and down the local coast. Los Angeles is an extremely diverse place, with people from all over the world setting up their homes, businesses, and communities throughout its various neighborhoods. A cultural melting pot, people from 140 countries speaking 96 different languages have settled in LA, which means you'll see signs in various languages and be treated to a huge variety of cuisines and cultures.

Los Angeles is the second largest metropolitan area in the country, with a population of more than 16 million people. Getting a feel for such a huge area is a challenge: Hollywood legends, Malibu surfing, rush hour traffic, CalTech, graffiti and Valley Girls all compete to be part of L.A.'s identity. Los Angeles is the largest city in California and the second largest in the entire U.S. Los Angeles is particularly rich in this respect: bananas, peaches, avocados, lemons, oranges, limes, kumquats, loquats, apples, plums, passion fruit, walnuts, pomegranates and guavas, just to name a few, grow year round in every neighborhood in the city.

Los Angeles is the top apparel manufacturing center in the nation, surpassing New York City in the mid 1990s. Los Angeles is a culmination of 1,001 vibrant neighborhoods, making it fun for corps members to experience a little bit of everything during their two-year commitments. Each distinctive neighborhood has its own flavor, from Hollywood with its booming live theater scene and 21 new productions opening every week, to Palos Verdes with its ocean-front whale watching.
